Our Heritage

The InterStrength Group had its beginnings as Interstrength Associates, which was founded as Temperament Research Institute in 1988 by Linda Berens as an organization dedicated to helping individuals and organizations learn about and apply individual differences information—specifically temperament information. In 2005, we changed our name to Interstrength Associates to reflect that we are not just focused on temperament theory, but on the powerful applications of multiple models of individual differences information to help individuals and organizations build internal and interpersonal strength.

Some of our milestones:

In 1995 created the first ever Guide for Facilitating the Self-Discovery Process with full color graphics and scripted lesson plans.

In 1995 trademarked the Understanding Yourself and Others® series of self-discovery workbooks.

In 1995 became one of 6 (later to become 8) Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) Qualifying Program providers in the United States. Our program was approved because of our inclusion of temperament theory and later the Interaction Styles model in the training and our history of already conducting these programs since 1991 with Type Resources.

Between 1991 and 2008, qualified more than 2500 individuals to ethically use the MBTI® instrument in their work.

In 2001 spun off 16types.com as a separate information, training, and product distribution organization.

In 2001 made public a groundbreaking model, Interaction Styles, for understanding typological differences.

In 2004 created the Interstrength Method Certification program.

In 2007 established a partnership with ACER, Dan Foster, and Anne Russell to conduct InterStrength® Method Ceritification programs in Australia.

In 2007 established a partnership with Susan Nash to conduct InterStrength® Method Ceritification programs in the UK.

In 2009 launched the first ever web-based, interactive self-discovery process—Interstrength® Explorers in partnership with CogBooks, Ltd.

In 2011 Interstrength Associates became The InterStrength Group, LLC.
