The MBTI® instrument is one of the most widely used personality instruments in the world today. It has a long history, an established Qualifying Process, and over one million practitioners worldwide. Interstrength® Associates is on the forefront in providing MBTI® Qualifying Programs as well as Continuing Education Credits for MBTI® Certification.

Getting MBTI® Qualified
The Interstrength MBTI Quaifying Program helps you use the MBTI® tool more effectively by giving you multiple ways to help individuals find a good fit within the Jung-Myers model of psychological type. Beyond merely finding a good fit, individuals want to see how to apply the theory to their work and ISA is known for its powerful applications to communication, teamwork, and organizational development.

What is the difference between Qualified Practitioners
and MBTI Certified Practitioners?

Both can purchase and use the MBTI instrument. However, Certified Practitioners are held to higher standards and must meet complete 20 continuing education credits every three years. These additional requirements protect and enhance the use of the instrument and protect the public.

  • Qualified practitioners of the MBTI instrument may use the Indicator and purchase restricted MBTI materials. Such practitioners recognize a variety of concepts relevant to the MBTI instrument which include understanding tests and measurements, type terminology based on C.G. Jung's and Myers-Briggs' psychological type theory, type dynamics and development; following guidelines for administration, scoring, and interpretation of the instrument; and recognizing ethical guidelines for using it.
  • Certified MBTI Practitioners must meet the basic requirements of the qualified practitioner and in addition are held to higher standards, which include additional education and practical experience. This additional training offers the general public a mechanism by which they can better distinguish the skill level of the practitioner.

History of the MBTI®
During World War II, a young woman named Isabel Myers decided to do her part for the war effort by creating a self-report inventory that would make Carl Jung's theory of psychological types available to more people. At this time self-report instruments were just beginning to be developed. Prior to that time, only psychologists "assessed" personality. Her goals were two fold; 1)help people find a better fit for their work and so make the work in factories and in the military more effective and 2)promote world peach by helping people develop more appreciation for individual differences and how to use the differences constructively rather than divisively. Her work resulted in world-wide use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and spawned an industry of professional "type practitioners" who apply type theory to business effectiveness, communication, career development, cross-cultural understanding, education, spirituality and more.
